Mali is a country in West Africa.
Mali is bordered by Algeria to the north-northeast, Niger to the east, Burkina Faso to the south-east, Ivory Coast to the south, Guinea to the south-west, and Senegal to the west and Mauritania to the north-west.

Despite being one of the biggest nations in Africa, Mali has a relatively small population that is primarily concentrated along the Niger River.

The most populated is the capital Bamako followed by sikasso, the second largest and most populous city in Mali.

Population densities throughout Mali are low; in the more remote eastern and northeastern areas, densities are only about three persons per square mile.
